BC Monthly Real GDP Estimate for December 2025 & Preliminary Estimate for January 2026

by Florencio Jr Mende

The BCREA Nowcast estimate for provincial economic growth, measured as year-over-year growth in real GDP, indicated a 1.4 per cent increase in December. By comparison, the Canadian economy saw a year-over-year growth of 1 per cent in December. Our preliminary estimate for January 2026 suggests a year-over-year growth of 0.8 per cent for BC, compared to 0.4 per cent for Canada. For the full year of 2025, we estimate that the BC economy grew 1.5 per cent.

On a regional level, we continue to see weakness in the Northern and Kootenay economies due to weak labour markets and slowing manufacturing and natural resource sectors. Growth has more or less steadied in other regions of the province, though remains weak relative to historical standards.
