BC Monthly Real GDP Estimate for January 2026 & Preliminary Estimate for February 2026

by Florencio Jr Mende

The BCREA Nowcast estimate for provincial economic growth, measured as year-over-year growth in real GDP, indicated 0.7 per cent increase in January 2026, the lowest Nowcast reading since 2020. By comparison, the Canadian economy saw a year-over-year growth of just 0.6 per cent in January. Our preliminary estimate for February suggests that year-over-year growth remained slow at 1.1 per cent for BC, compared to 0.8 per cent for Canada.

On a regional level, growth appears to have slowed in all regions with the exception of the North which appears to be on a recovery trajectory following a full year of tracking in negative territory.
