by Florencio Jr Mende

The BCREA Nowcast estimate of provincial economic growth (expressed as year-over-year growth in real GDP) for May was 1.5 per cent, a rebound from just 0.7 per cent in April. For comparison, year-over-year growth in the Canadian economy in May was 1.2 per cent. Our preliminary estimate for June shows growth picking up slightly to 1.8 per cent. Through the first six months of 2025, we are tracking BC real GDP growth at 1.6 per cent.

At a regional level, growth has slowed sharply since the first quarter in regions most likely to be impacted by US tariffs, such as the Kootenay, Thompson-Okanagan, and Northern regions, where estimated growth has turned negative.
