BC Monthly Real GDP Estimate for May 2026 & Preliminary Estimate for June 2026
The BCREA Nowcast estimate for provincial economic growth, measured as year-over-year growth in real GDP, indicated a 1.9 per cent increase in May 2026. By comparison, the Canadian economy saw a year-over-year growth of 1.7 per cent in May. Our preliminary estimate for June suggests that year-over-year growth was 1.7 per cent for BC, compared to 1.9 per cent for Canada. Our year-over-year estimate was the strongest since January 2025, and the Nowcast monthly series shows a provincial economy that is recovering following a rocky start to the year.
On a regional level, growth remains steady but still below trend across most areas of the province. Northern BC remains a bright spot, showing a significant recovery, driven by higher global commodity prices and a rebound in regional employment.
